About the role

To increase our impact in modeling, calibration, data mining, and research, we are looking to hire a data analyst / modeler with experience in Python and R programming. The applicant will join the modeling & data team with broad and dynamic responsibilities, which can in part depend on the skills, experience, and interest of the applicant.

The modeling & data team works closely with the operations and software engineering teams to fulfill different tasks, such as, support to operations, quality reviews, automation of processes, software programming, integration with cloud resources, desktop research on remote-sensing, agriculture, funding schemes, software tools, etc. Therefore, to this position, in addition to the hard skills, carefulness, dependability, flexibility, interpersonal skills, multidisciplinarity, open-mindness, pragmatism, resilience, team work, thoughtfulness, and being a problem solver are paramount.

Initial responsibilities

  • Support in the design, pricing, and monitoring of existing parametric products across all ventures.
  • Contribute to the consolidation and automatization of existing models and data pipelines.
  • Contribute to the development of new models and data mining algorithms, and to their integration with the cloud infrastructure. This will include liaising with various stakeholders, as well as researching, programming in our in-house software platform Ag-Suite, testing, and creating documentation.

Main requirements

  • Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline such as environmental science/engineering, data science, applied mathematics/statistics, physics, or computer science with strong modeling/data mining experience.
  • Expertise in Python and knowledge of R or expertise in R and knowledge of Python.
  • Proactivity with a problem solving attitude.
  • Flexibility, ability to learn, and drive to solve problems.
  • English proficiency.

Additional assets

  • PhD in a scientific discipline or experience with scientific research.
  • Working experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience with versioning with Git.
  • Knowledge of/experience with inference, calibration, optimization, artificial intelligence.
  • Knowledge of/experience with data-driven models.
  • Knowledge of/experience with time series data.
  • Knowledge of/experience with weather/climate models.
  • Knowledge of/experience with GIS tools/spatial programming.
  • Knowledge of/experience with remote sensing technology.
  • Knowledge of/experience with Linux and Linux servers.
  • Knowledge of/experience with Cloud systems.
  • Knowledge of/experience with web-programming and databases.
  • Knowledge of/experience with actuarial science/parametric insurance.
  • Knowledge of/experience with agronomy/plant physiology.
  • Knowledge of/experience with sustainability/sustainable development goals.
  • Experience with writing/reviewing grant applications/project proposals.
