Challenge
The Government’s Ministry of Agriculture sought to enrol farmers from 4 provinces in only 10 days as part of a climate resilience initiative for small holder farmers.. The registration process involved 22 government operators working across shifts and locations. The registration included verifying bank accounts, signing consent forms, and authentication to prevent fraudulent registrations for all farmers enrolled. Additionally, the project required a community survey to gather feedback (10%) and refine the insurance product for future seasons. This ambitious goal demanded a simple, fast, and secure digital solution that could be deployed quickly, with clear user guidance and reliable monitoring tools for supervisors.
Solution
Blue Marble developed a custom web application tailored specifically to the project’s operational and compliance needs to enrol farmers on a very quick timeline. The platform was designed with an intuitive user experience, featuring alerts, guided explanations, and multi-level access controls to ensure efficiency and accuracy during registration.
Prior to launch, Blue Marble’s Technology Team conducted comprehensive training and role-playing sessions with government operators to ensuring they could confidently use the system regardless of technical skill level. By integrating technology, training, and operational support, Blue Marble enabled the government to successfully meet its registration targets on time while maintaining data integrity and transparency.
“With the last payout, I invested in fertilizers so that with good weather, I can have a good harvest. Else, we’d have needed loans, or our coffee production would’ve suffered.”

“I have talked to my neighbors, friends and family members about how [insurance] is a safety net that allows us to cultivate coffee with more peace of mind.”

“With [insurance], this catastrophic year we could pay the debt that we had for our fertilizers, giving us a clean slate for next season.

“We signed up for the insurance for our benefit. When we are given a solar light, we save on electricity, when there is no electricity we use the solar light, if we go to fields we take it with us, and we can educate our kids when there is no electricity. For all these types of work, the solar light is useful. If we get any sickness in this type of heat, then the money can be used for medicines or we can choose to stay inside. In these situations, the insurance is helpful.”

"Before I had parametric insurance, I was always worried about bad weather ruining my crops. But after joining, I feel much more secure. The insurance is easy to understand, and I know I’m protected if the weather is bad. Now I can focus on my farm without always worrying."
