Climate Risk Solutions Can Strengthen Financial Resilience in Sri Lanka

Climate risk is no longer a future concern. It is already reshaping financial resilience for communities, businesses and financial institutions across Sri Lanka.

Following one of the country’s most severe climate events in recent history, Blue Marble is working with microfinance institutions (MFIs) to better understand climate exposure and explore practical solutions that help reduce financial vulnerability. By combining climate risk analytics with parametric insurance, financial institutions can respond more effectively after extreme weather events while strengthening the resilience of their lending portfolios.

Parametric insurance enables faster financial support by linking payouts to predefined weather parameters, helping vulnerable communities recover more quickly while reducing loan repayment risks for lenders. Together with climate risk modelling, these digital, data-driven approaches support more resilient financial ecosystems and improve preparedness for future climate events.

These themes will be central to discussions at the Sri Lanka International Insurance Summit 2026, hosted by the Insurance Association of Sri Lanka (IASL), taking place in Colombo from 10–12 August.

Blue Marble’s Vikas Singh, Head of Asia Business Development, will be attending the summit to engage with insurers, financial institutions and industry partners on how climate risk modelling and parametric insurance can strengthen resilience for underserved communities and the organisations that support them.

Building resilient insurance ecosystems requires collaboration, innovation and practical implementation. Blue Marble continues to partner with financial institutions to deliver digital end-to-end insurance solutions that help underserved communities better manage climate risk and recover faster from extreme weather events.
