Parametric Insurance Project Launched to Strengthen Climate Resilience for Indonesia's Coffee and Cocoa Farmers

Parametric insurance is set to play an important role in strengthening climate resilience for Indonesia’s coffee and cocoa smallholder farmers through a new collaborative initiative launched on 7 July.

Blue Marble joined Indonesia’s Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas), PT Asuransi Jasa Indonesia (Jasindo), and the InsuResilience Solutions Fund (ISF) to launch a project focused on developing parametric insurance solutions that help farming communities better manage climate-related risks.

The launch brought together representatives from government, the insurance and financial sectors, private-sector coffee and cocoa companies, research institutions, and farmer-support organizations. The multi-stakeholder workshop explored how innovative climate risk protection can contribute to stronger agricultural resilience and more sustainable value chains.

Coffee and cocoa production supports millions of livelihoods across Indonesia, yet increasing climate variability continues to challenge farmers’ productivity and long-term financial security. By combining expertise across the public and private sectors, the project aims to develop insurance solutions that respond quickly when predefined climate events occur, providing transparent financial protection that helps farmers recover more rapidly from climate shocks.

The initiative reflects Blue Marble’s commitment to building partnerships that expand access to innovative insurance solutions for underserved communities. Working alongside Bappenas, Jasindo, ISF, and a broad network of stakeholders, the project seeks to strengthen resilience across Indonesia’s agricultural sector while supporting sustainable economic development.
