Climate Insurance Protects 5,100+ Kenya Coffee Farmers
Climate insurance is helping more than 5,100 coffee farmers in Murang’a County, Kenya, strengthen their financial resilience following extreme weather conditions during the 2025–2026 season.
The farmers, participating in the Nespresso Program, received insurance support after weather conditions triggered coverage designed to protect their livelihoods. Low temperatures during the cold season, followed by excess rainfall in early 2026, affected farming conditions and activated the protection.
For smallholder farmers, climate risk is already a reality. Increasingly unpredictable weather can affect crops, income and the ability to continue investing in farming activities. Access to timely financial protection can help farmers respond to these shocks and move forward with greater financial security.
Blue Marble supports this initiative alongside APA Insurance Limited and Nestlé Nespresso SA, working through partnership to expand climate risk protection for coffee-growing communities in Kenya.
The payout demonstrates how innovative climate insurance can translate risk protection into tangible support when farmers need it. By connecting insurance solutions with the realities faced by agricultural communities, programs such as this can contribute to stronger financial resilience and help farmers continue investing in their livelihoods.
For Blue Marble, this reflects a broader commitment to inclusive insurance innovation: developing and implementing insurance solutions that provide meaningful protection for underserved communities.
As climate risks continue to affect agricultural communities, effective partnerships and accessible insurance solutions have an important role to play in helping farmers manage uncertainty and build resilience for the future.
